General Update

NOTE: This is an archive post from LiveJournal which has been logged here for posterity.

Oh dear, I'm discovering something awful... I am a girly-girl.

Might sound odd my saying that, but I've never really been a 'girly girl'; never really cared about makeup - except when I was going out, didn't own skirts, didn't care about heels or earrings or clothes...

Last few years it's been slowly building up to the point where I woke up the other day in my new Oscar the Grouch pajamas, had a shower, put on a body moisturiser (one with tanning stuff in it), facial moisturiser, eye cream, concealer, foundation, mascara, got dressed into matching underware, a skirt, stockings and a frilly top then spent 15 minutes deciding what earrings to wear.

I am, in fact, a girly-girl - that's three different types of moisturiser I put on!

Granted I'm a girly-girl who swears and drinks beer, but nonetheless, I am a girly-girl.

The other day I was at work and I realised... if I undo my belt, my pants fall down. This was a little strange given that when I moved to Auckland I was Size 20. The jeans I was wearing at work were size 18.

This could only mean one conclusion...

So I decided to test my theory. I went to Farmers with my shopping buddy and loaded my arms with size 16 pants. In my imagination I could see this leading to the same place it always leads - me winding myself trying to do up the buttons and ending up in a crying mess on the floor.

With trepidation I went into the changing room, closed the door and put on the pants to find... they bloody well fit! Perfectly! Nice and snug in the right places... I could sit, I could squat, I could walk and run - most surprisingly I could breathe! After checking the clothes weren't somehow mis-labelled I bought two new pairs of size 16 pants.

I haven't been a size 16 since I was about 13/14. While all the girls at school were buying fashion from Glassons, I was trawling Farmers, K-Mart, DEKA and The Warehouse for good-looking, fitting clothes.

Let's just say that I was a little fashion-clumsy back in high school.

But yesterday, after the amazing revelation I asked my friend if she'd mind going to Glassons. Normally I hate that bloody store (mostly cos nothing ever fit and it bought back horrible memories of high school), but yesterday it was my goal. I had to try something - anything - on. I wasn't going to buy it (and having seen the clothes in there I was bloody sure of that), but I did want to put it on.

So we went in, I found a fun skirt with netting on the inside to make it puff out. I went into the changing rooms, and the horrible changing room vision re-surfaced. If it didn't fit I was going to cry. But no, the skirt went on effortlessly and as I looked at myself - in a Glassons changing room - wearing this hideous skirt, I felt elated, overjoyed and amazed. Somehow, I am losing weight, and it's fantastic!!

When we got home we compared the long-retired (now passed on) size 20's to a brand new pair of 16's and it's a good 4 inches less.

Horah!

A Scene From Psycho

Our shower, is red.

I dyed my hair today, red, not sure how it looks at the moment, it's still wet, I have a feeling it's bright red down the bottom (where it used to be blonde) and a milder red up the top (where it was my natural brown colour).

I honestly am spending my Friday evening doing my hair, rather then going out... I watch a lot of TV1 these days, I want to see two or three films at the Rialto.... am I getting old? I doubt it!

The last couple of days have been fun. On Valentines day I received a phone call, which hyped me up a bit, from an old friend, to which my flatmates were kept amused for a while mocking me about. The next day he and I went out to lunch, walked around the waterfront, did the free things (Te Papa, made fun of French Navy Dudes) and then came home and talked for a while, then he left, the flatties came home and the interrogation began!! (EDITOR'S NOTE: either Blair or Andy, I'm pretty sure it was Andy)

I've been told by Dave, my oldest flatmate, that now I'm flatting with them it's like having four older brothers and they'll wanna meet all my friends.... geez, what happened to the 'do not judge' bit in the Bible? (as all of my flatmates are Christian)

Today was spent doing my favourite thing EVER... spending money. Course related costs came through today so I spent the day with Seth (my famous flatmate, he was part of The Edge promotion, 'Inmates' about this time last year) in Petone getting chef stuff, groceries and hair dye :-P

Have you ever tried to spend $1000?? It's a lot harder then it sounds!! Some of that money's gone on the next 2 week's rent (I'm being responsible for once in my life), some has actually gone on course stuff (the aforementioned chef stuff), which for a student, for anyone who knows a one, is pretty darn amazing!! And of course Cd's (note: Coldplay's Parachutes and Linkin Park's Hybrid Theory are both excellent albums)

So the last couple of days have been rather busy, it's amazing what you get up to once you don't have any television to watch...

How RUDE!!

I know it's cheesy to put a early-90s-sitcom quote as my topic, but it sum's it up quite nicely.

While out today on my "I don't have classes *jump for joy* but I need groceries and the third part of my book series cos I just finished the second although I had to stay up all night to do so" shopping trip I went to Bellamy's Bookshop in Cuba Mall, I wanted the third part, and have found this shop to have a copy or two on previous excursions, in fact, this is where I found the first part, but I digress. Having entered with a pack on my back (as I needed to take in books to exchange to get the one I wanted cheaply and also wanted something to carry my groceries home in), so I followed the signs posted around the place which read "Please leave bags at front counter" and asked the lady behind the counter if I could leave it there, she turned around and said, what I figured out to be (as she had a heavy accent of some European origin) "Put it out the back" now I thought this was odd, so I replied "I'm just going over there" (while pointing about 2 metres away at the Fantasy section) and she said, very angrily and rudely "put it on your back! Can you do that? Put it on your back!" To this I felt like saying "fuck you!" and leaving, but I said, amazingly calmly "OK" looked at the book, decided I wasn't going to spend my money there, even if it was the last copy in Wellington and left.

Facing a dilemma of knowing other second hand bookshops in Cuba Street didn't stock this series, and I really wanted it, I had to use my brain. I knew the only other place that had it was on the other end of Courtenay Place, to which I happily trotted, to find the book $5 cheaper, and with the books I traded I ended up getting it free and $2 cash, the people there treated me nicely, and even though it's out of my way, I will be going there again.
